I have partnered with The Children’s Book Review and author Jay Dee to bring you a book review of Grow Through It. This timely book follows young Ellen as she wraps her head around being stuck at home during the COVID-19 lockdown. All proceeds of this book are being donated to Coronavirus relief efforts.
This book is a great reminder to make the most of difficult circumstances. The adults’ responses in children’s lives play a crucial role in how kids will respond to circumstances.
In this story, Ellen’s mom teaches her that she can use the unexpected opportunity to grow. Even though she would prefer to “get through it” at first, she begins to see the value of “growing through it.”
Ellen then copies her mom’s servant’s heart and finds ways to make a difference in her community by doing simple acts of service that bring joy and hope to others.
This book shows the difficulty children have working through their emotions. Ellen’s mom helps her through each step of the way, redirecting her attention to the choices Ellen could make to improve her situation by changing her outlook.
This book is beneficial to children and adults alike. When we are faced with difficult circumstances, we can choose how we respond to difficult times. We can either choose to survive or work on thriving. We can simply get through it by pushing past each day, or we can use the experience as an opportunity to grow and become better people.
There are always lessons to learn through the hard times of life. The lessons we learn can make a difference not only for us but also for the people around us. Looking for the lessons in each moment gives us a voice to help others when they face hard times. This book is an excellent reminder of that.
When you’re faced with something that’s difficult, will you simply get through it, or will you grow through it?
