INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR KIMBER FOX MORGAN:
Tynea: What inspired you to write Chipper Sends Sunshine?
Kimber: My daughter inspired me to write this book. She is a summer camper and has been going to the same summer camp for years. She LOVES all her experiences and friends she has made, and I wanted to explore that experience on the pages of Chipper Sends Sunshine.
Tynea: Did you attend summer camp as a kid? If so, what were some of your favorite memories?
Kimber: Yes, and I remember the memories of the cabin and making friendship bracelets. I think it was the first and only time I have had Chicken and Dumplings!
Tynea: What was one of your favorite things to do with your childhood friends?
Kimber: We used to roam the neighborhood on our bikes, make up dance routine performances and played so many board games.
Tynea: What suggestions do you have for children who wish to have pen pals?
Kimber: I think pen pals are great! I had one growing up with my best friend who lived across the country. We wrote back and forth for years. (We are still best friends). But I do think you have to keep working at it. Keep writing, even if you haven’t heard back in a while. Try to keep the correspondence going. Also, switch it up…. mail a letter, then a greeting card. Maybe send a care package, or like what the characters did in Chipper Sends Sunshine…mail a Hug!
Tynea: What do you like most about writing?
Kimber: I love writing and putting the entire book together. I love watching my words coming to life on the page! I also love watching kids listen to the book when it is being read. They are so intent and curious. I love my job!
Tynea: Do Chipper and his friends have more upcoming adventures?
Kimber: Chipper and his friends will be back and participating in an arctic race this fall! Chipper will continue his merry making during some friendly competition! Stay tuned!
