A Prayer for the Mama Facing Pregnancy or Infant Loss

Lord, we pray for the mama whose heart is utterly shattered. Lord, she’s facing the loss of a sweet, sweet baby. She doesn’t know where to turn, and it feels like this pain is never going to ease. It feels as though she will never be able to move forward. Lord, you are with her in her brokenness. Thank you for pulling her close and reminding her that you can create something beautiful out of such brokenness.

Lord, we ask that you surround this mama with people who deeply care about her. Use them to encourage her weary heart. Give them the words to say and the actions to ease her burden. Lord, we cannot take away her pain. We cannot change what has happened, but we can be there. We can sit with her. We can cry with her. We can pray for her. We can serve her. Lord, help us to do that. Please help us to be your hands and feet.

Lord, it doesn’t make sense. We know bad things happen in this fallen world, but it doesn’t seem fair that she doesn’t get to hold this baby in her arms right now. We wish we could make sense of it, but there are some things we will never know this side of heaven.

We do know that sweet baby is safe in your arms. If this mama has accepted Jesus as her savior, nothing will separate her from her baby. One day this mama will get to hold her baby, and the tears she is crying today will be wiped away. Thank you for that hope. Thank you for the joy that will replace the sorrow of today. What a glorious day that will be.

You are a God of love and hope, and we ask that you work everything together for her good. We ask that at the right time, you use the experiences of this mama to be an encouragement to another mama walking the same rough journey. Use her to encourage someone else. Use her to bring hope to the mama who feels absolutely hopeless.

Your plan in all of this is greater than anything we could ever imagine. We ask that you use this pain to draw people to you, to cling to you, to trust in you, to live for you.

We ask that you bring healing to the broken, hope to the hopeless, and strength to the weak. Thank you for never leaving or forsaking us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
